Professor David Gwilt is one of the most influential personalities in the Hong Kong music scene, from the 1970s, for five decades. Firstly he has played so many different roles successfully since his arrival in Hong Kong in 1970: as educator, pianist, broadcaster, journalist, composer, conductor, adjudicator, policy-maker, to name but a few. Secondly, through his leadership of the Music Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Conservatory of Music, Professor Gwilt’s education philosophy and teaching have influenced a whole generation of locally trained musicians from the 1970s to the 1990s.
