Sponsored by the CASH Music Fund and presented by the CUHK, ‘The Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Scholarships 2024/25’ have been awarded to the following students from the Department of Music.
Chan Chi Huen
Chan Chi Huen is currently a final year undergraduate pursuing Bachelor of Arts in Music, studying the trumpet under Mr Jacobus Chong. Majoring in composition, he is studying under the tutelage of Prof. Chan Kai Young, Dr Lo Hau Man and Prof. Wendy Lee.
Chan has composed music for diverse genres. His representative compositions include As the Hart Panteth after the Water Brooks, a Cantonese choral-orchestral sacred work, and Mountain City — Nightscape, for solo trumpet, horn, euphonium and symphonic band. He has also produced jazz compositions, one of which is Auld Lang Syne Anew, written for the big band with original English lyrics.
Chen Shuaike
Chen Shuaike is currently a doctoral student in composition, studying under the guidance of Prof. Wendy Lee. Chan has been awarded several accolades, including the Third Prize at the ‘13th Rivers Awards International Composition Competition’ in 2024, and the second place in the Senior Division of the ‘Rocky Mountain Composition Competition’ in Canada, etc.
His notable works include the solo piece for dizi, Wucao Whispers; chamber music pieces such as The Transcendence Realm and The Resonance Of Mountain Song; orchestral works like Cherry Blossoms and the clarinet concerto Fire Dance. His compositions have been performed by ensembles such as Ensemble L’Itinéraire, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, and Wenzhou University Symphony Orchestra.
